Bill listens to his brother Reynolds read from his new book

Reynolds Price appeared before an overflow crowd Tuesday night at Quail Ridge Books in Raleigh to read from his new book “Ardent Spirits.”  After a brief Q&A he also signed copies of his book and chatted with some of his classmates from Broughton High.  One of the questions was how he could recall in such great detail events that happened more than 50 years ago, and he just passed it off with the comment that those events were firmly etched in his mind.  He told the audience that it took 4 -5 years to write the book and that he didn’t refer to any old letters until after he had written the first draft and wanted to confirm some details.  They sat enthralled as he read from the beginning of the book in his usual melodious tones with more than just a touch of humor.
